I’ve always preferred chasing to being chased. That’s why when I saw how close the pack was to reeling in Tom Danielson as they neared the finish of Stage 3 of the US Pro Cycling Challenge, I felt for him. I was sure he was going to be caught.
He came over Independence Pass alone and with a near two minute lead, and he managed to hang on to it for the 20+ mile descent to the finish in town. Here’s a little video I shot that show’s just how close it was as he approached the finish. I counted a 4-5 second lead with about a half mile to go.
