Some Random Stuff
Ted Wins the Lottery
The results are in, and the news is good. With nearly 350 people vying for some 150 or so spots in this year’s Hardrock 100, my odds of getting a number weren’t all that great. Well, the lottery was held today and I got in. I suppose the hard part is over.
Well not exactly. I should probably go for a run tomorrow.
Alpinist Resurrected
With bad news running rampant on both the economy and publishing front these days, it was nice to read that the publishers of Backcountry and Telemark magazines are bringing back Alpinist. Two months after the grim announcement that the large format magazine, considered by many to fall in the ‘collectible’ category much like National Geographic, was closing its doors, came the announcement of it’s return. Read both announcements here.
If you’re a serious climber, an armchair mountaineer, or someone who cares to read a good tale, be it of tough times or triumphs, you should pick up a subscription. And if you like great photos of mountains and routes, it’s a must-have.
Third Time’s a Charm
Good luck to Rickey in this year’s Empire State Building Race. The stairmaster sprint will be his third go at the 86 flights of steps, which usually takes about ten minutes to finish. In 2007 he got 3rd place, despite having caught a punch to the face by another racer who resorted to guerilla tactics to keep him from making a pass. Last year he nabbed 2nd place. Not to jinx the Tuesday race, but we’re hoping to hear he gets the win this time around (or up).
Mid-season road trip
Having reached the midpoint of the ski season, Christy and I headed south for a break from the local scene. No, not to the beach or something silly like that, but rather to the San Juans, to check out the skiing at Silverton and for a couple of days of ice climbing in Ouray. We’ll post some pics in a few days.
